Following Recent Severe Weather, Luján Visits Santa Fe and Chama to Assess Storm Damage, Discuss Recovery Efforts with Local Officials, With More Visits Planned

NORTHERN NEW MEXICO – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) visited Santa Fe and the Village of Chama to assess damage caused by recent severe weather and flooding, meet with local officials, and discuss ongoing recovery efforts and federal assistance. He’ll visit additional communities impacted by severe weather and flooding this week.

“New Mexicans impacted by these severe storms and flooding need support as they work to recover,” said Senator Luján. “I’m grateful to the first responders, local officials, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Families are dealing with damaged homes and the difficult work of picking up the pieces. They deserve to know that we’re working alongside their communities as they recover. I will continue working with local, state, and federal partners to help ensure they have the resources they need to rebuild.”
In Santa Fe, Senator Luján joined city Mayor Garcia and city leaders to survey damage from a recent tornado that damaged 10 homes in the midtown area. He met with local officials to assess the damage, discuss recovery efforts, and identify opportunities for federal assistance. The EF-1 tornado was Santa Fe’s first in more than 50 years.
Senator Luján also met with Mayor Vigil, local leaders, and emergency management officials in the Village of Chama to assess damages from recent flooding. He toured affected areas and discussed the community’s recovery needs, including how his office can help connect local officials with federal resources. He’ll visit additional communities this week.
